SCHOOL PROFILE
Located near downtown Orlando, Pershing Elementary School was established in 1961. This community school is home to second and third generation Pershing families living in the Conway community. The original brick structure houses 22 classrooms, administrative offices, and a cafetorium. In 1992, an additional building was constructed to accommodate some of the exceptional education programs and provide an updated media center, complete with a television studio. The school provides the families with hours of recreational activities on its baseball diamonds, basketball court, and new playground, which was a joint venture between the district and Pershing's extremely active PTA. The current enrollment for the 2007-2008 school year is approximately 350 students. With an emphasis on low class sizes, the school curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation for all of its students. Additional services designed to meet the needs of our students include programs for the specific learning disabled, and varying exceptionalities. The strength of the school comes from a committed staff and outstanding parents. Parents volunteer over 4,000 hours each year assisting teachers, tutoring students, participating in PTA and SAC. The school has been recognized for outstanding volunteer service with the Golden School Award numerous times. Parents are encouraged to be active participants in their children’s education. Staff members offer students a solid academic foundation in a nurturing environment. The faculty is continually involved in staff development to increase knowledge and proficiency. A primary focus on aligning curriculum with state and national standards and expectations ensure that student achievement will remain high. Close collaboration between general education, exceptional education, and special area staff members guarantees that the needs of individual students are recognized and addressed. In summary, Pershing Elementary is a
strong, community school striving to educate and prepare students
to become worthy citizens and outstanding leaders for tomorrow.
